We’ve been talking a lot in class about what great stories do, so I’ve provided a few key points inspired by the Transmedia storytelling experts Henry Jenkins and Jeff Gomez.
As Mike Monello said in his presentation, Babies, Buns and Buzzers, 'Transmedia is not a buzzword but a way of allowing people to see themselves in your story.'
- Great stories make you feel – something good, something bad…but you care.
- Great stories provide scope, scale and depth – you can go deeper if you want.
- Great stories have timeless themes – simple themes that people can relate to.
- Great stories have storylines (plot) and story arc development - it's much like a strategy.
- Great stories show cultivation, validation and celebration of fan base - you recognise their efforts.
- Great stories have interwoven storylines and continuity across platforms - back to strategy again, you have a plan.
